Redo of Repast

We were wrong.  And we can admit that.  We first went to [tag]Repast[/tag] a few years ago when it first opened.  It was a good meal, and we remember the cocktails being exceptional, but it fell into our – “good but not worth repeating” category.  Many restaurants suffer this fate from us because there are just so many we want to try and so few that make it on the short list of “must repeat often.”  But we decided to give Repast a redo after a few years… and man, we have been missing out! Stupid silly girls.

Indeed, the cocktails were spectacular – especially the Repastini with ginger-infused vodka and a ginger salt rim.  Yum.  Alley joined us for the redo, and we used that as a justification to order 3 appetizers.  A cheese sampler that was superb; the tuna avocado tartare (tuna + avocado = always a winner); and bacon-wrapped dates (which went well with our cheeses).  Next, Ashley and I shared the “butter poached” halibut which was no doubt the best halibut we have ever eaten in our lives…and we have eaten some serious halibut.  This one was perfectly flaky with a light wild mushroom broth.   Alley went for the “repast style” crab cakes which were also excellent.

The owners are a husband and wife pair of chefs – he is from rural Louisiana and she is from Japan.  We spoke with Chef Joe Truex and apologized for our former Repast rejection and promised to put Repast on the repeat list.  And you should too.  Note: Ashley was unable to write this post because during the entire meal she was distracted and as nervous as a schoolboy over our Penelope Cruz look-alike Argentine waitress.

What The *#^@ ? Part Two

Wow.  I am not sure even what to say to this one which we saw in the parking lot of a Waffle House in Gainesville, GA on our way to the outlet mall.    Does this mean that God drove his Jag to the Waffle House on a Saturday morning?  Or, does it mean that God purchased this Jag for the owner who was eating scattered, covered, and smothered hashbrowns at the Waffle House?

We just don’t know.

Walk/Run your Pup for The Bridge!

Have you ever heard of [tag]The Bridge[/tag]?   I have because I have a couple of good friends who work there!  And I think they do spectacular things for troubled youth across Metro-Atlanta. They have even been around since 1970.

Their fabulous mission is to improve the quality of life and social functioning of Georgia’s troubled and abused adolescents by providing innovative community based and family focused services, specialized education and residential care.

One of the coolest things they do is to bring wonderful doggies into their program and use the pups for therapy.  The “Animal Assisted Therapy Program” works to help youth who have been physically and sexually abused learn coping skills and find a sense of security and comfort with themselves and others.  This year, they are doing a First Annual Run Walk Bark 5k Race/1k Dog Walk/Fun & Games fundraiser on Sunday, June 28, 2009 at Brook Run Park in Dunwoody, from 7:30am to 12:00pm. [tag]Run Walk Bark[/tag] is a family focused and pet friendly event to benefit [tag]The Bridge’s Animal Assisted Therapy Program[/tag].  YEAH!

The 5K Run and 1K Dog Walk registration is $20 per runner/walker in advance or $25 after June 23. The 5k Run will begin at 7:30am. The 1k Dog Walk will begin at 8:30am and game stations will open at 8:00am.   You can form a team and raise even more money for The Bridge and the animals who help the kids so much!

They anticipate 500 participants in this first annual event to benefit The Bridge. Come and Run, Walk or Bark with them to help teenagers in Atlanta, or make a donation to The Bridge!  Brutus, Little Girl, Alison and I hope to be there!
