My Trip To Dilliards

So, I broke down and tried on a darn [tag]Spanx[/tag] bra today.  If you don’t know about Spanx, you are either a) not a woman or b) not up on current things.   Here is the story: [tag]Sara Blakely, a girl from Atlanta[/tag], gets tired of her panty hose back in the 1990′s.  She cuts out the feet of her hose, does a little stitching and voila, comes up with the idea of “footless body shaping Pantyhose.”  Well, now, this gazillionaire has a company that makes all sorts of things that are form fitting and comfy for women and she also is fabulous enough to run her own Foundation.

Anyway, so I tried the bra on reluctantly because they cost $62.00 friggin dollars…but alas, it was amazing and I can’t imagine life without it now.  Okay, that was a bit dramatic, but it feels great.   Go buy one – that is if you are a woman or a man who needs one.

The second part of the story goes like this:  I am in line at the Dilliard’s Intimate Clothing Department when I get into this conversation with a lady who is discussing interest rates on credit cards.  And man, is she mad!  She tells me about a Chase card that she has that she has really no balance on it – and they keep charging her a monthly bill of $1.00.  Now, I don’t understand this whole explanation – but I do know she lets me look at the bill and I am horrified that this lady has a credit card from Chase where the interest rate has gone up to 239% . Yes, you read that correctly.  I could not believe the APR on this card was that high!  So, I took a picture of it and here it is.   Moral of story, keep tabs on your credit card and what they are charging you – especially if you do not spend a lot on it right now.

*Sorry about the focus of the camera. I was shaking at the thought of an APR this high!

In my hood…

Dining Out Wednesday Night, January 28th

Don’t forget to dine out at select restaurants on Wednesday night to help find the killer(s) of John Henderson, the beloved bartender from The Standard.  Restaurants are encouraged to give 20% of their profits that night to [tag]Crime Stoppers Atlanta[/tag] to increase the reward amount to find these assholes.

Please visit Atlantans Together Against Crime for a list of restaurants who are participating.  I am hopeful that more will sign up before Wednesday.

Local Color

Walking Brutus and Little Girl in my neighborhood is always an adventure, but lately I have discovered a couple of new things.  The cat under the umbrella sitting atop a pillow on and old shelf is priceless.  And then there are the chickens…and peacocks.  Yes, that is right, peacocks…

It Is Time

A good friend of mine in South Carolina starts off a meaningful sentence with the words, “It Is Time..”  Well, Atlanta It Is Time for our elected officials to grow a pair.  Never have I felt so afraid of living in a city before.  Never have I felt this deserted by the officials who are in charge of this sweet southern city.  Where are our elected officials?  Why do I only hear about budget cuts when there are literally people dying in violent break-ins throughout the city.

A couple of months ago, the list serves of East Lake, Cabbagetown, East Atlanta, Edgewood, Reynoldstown, Old Fourth Ward, Inman Park, and the Virginia Highlands were discussing the wave of [tag]violence in Atlanta[/tag].  People getting held up in broad day light for cash, people’s homes being broken into in the middle of the day, women being raped at the hands of robbers – as they plunder for that friggin flat screen tv.  And yet, Atlanta freezes hiring of police officers, furloughs city workers, and cuts pay.  How did we get here?  Why are we here?  At this point, I could go on and on, but I won’t.  I will just say to the elected officials and whoever decides to run for Mayor of Atlanta, that you better help us.

What put me over the edge was the senseless and reprehensible crime that happened at [tag]The Standard, a local bar on Memorial[/tag] – close to the Capitol I might add.  The four thieves who broke into the bar early Wednesday morning as two employees were cleaning up wanted money and ALL of these young men had guns.  Not only did they take the money, they killed the 27 year old bartender execution style – shot him in his legs and head.  This crime is disgusting, yet it is avoidable.  But, not without the help of our elected officials.  We must push our elected officials to do something – or nothing will change – because nothing has yet.  It has only gotten worse.

If you live in Atlanta and are afraid -and I am not being dramatic here – that this place is turning into Gotham, please join a new group [tag]Atlantans Together Against Crime and Cutbacks[/tag] so that we can be the change that yes, we do believe in.
