Spooky Halloween Homes

I think that if I were a kid going to these homes, I might pee in my pants walking up to the doors to grab some candy.  I am sure there are many homes in Atlanta out there that are this scary, but these are walking distance to my own home so I thought I would share the pictures.  Brutus and Little Girl growl when walking by…

Happy Halloween!

And I just found this sign below this morning off of Peachtree.  Loved the 1950′s look of it.

Edgewood Avenue’s New Italian Deli and Bar

The delicious cocktail at Noni’s.

My favorite street in Atlanta has always been Edgewood Avenue.  I love the brick buildings, the historical look of it, and I don’t know, I just love it.  So, there are a lot of new restaurants / shops popping up all over the place and I promise to write about each one.  In the meantime, “Girl’s Night” was held at [tag]Noni’s on Edgewood[/tag] this past Monday night and we had a great meal and fabulous service…

We all started off with cocktails (except Cille who is knocked up and expecting in January I believe) and the liquor selection was great -good gin and vodka selections.  Our waitress, Sarah- with an “h,” was fabulous, flirty to perfection, and very knowledgeable about everything on the menu.  Sarah told us all about the antipasti dishes and pastas in great detail and then let us know what we should get.  We did not argue.

We started with the three salads on the menu – the caesar, the caprese, and the arugula and we got the Cannellini Bean puree which was excellent.  The caprese was exceptional, the caesar was grand and I don’t like arugula so someone else will have to comment about that.

My favorite main dish was my own – which rarely happens!  I got the pancetta cream over farfalle pasta with a side of fennel sausage.  The sausage was so not needed, but was excellent in taste.  The dish was huge and could be split between two people.  Cilli got the spicy bolognese with the famous meatballs (damn, girl) and I can’t remember what pasta was under it.  Hers was magnificent as well but the meatballs really made the difference on that dish.  Alley and Elizabeth split the chicken and eggplant parmesan and it was very nice and not too heavy.  My least favorite was Lea’s dish.  (Sorry Lea but I think she would say the same thing.)  Her lemon anchovy over the homemade tagliatelle was just too bland.   It tasted , well, like lemon and anchovy, but I guess I thought it would “pop” a little more.

Cille’s gorgeous meatball dish.

All dishes are very reasonably priced -around 10$ to 14$ and if you go, you must get the tiramisu for desert.  Yum yum.  We enjoyed our girl’s night there and I will certainly be going back! Oh, by the way, ask for Sarah and I am sure she will take good care of you.

Euphoria for Yoforia

yoforia1.jpg

I haven’t been this excited about frozen yogurt since it was cool- like 1991.  But frozen yogurt is making a comeback in Atlanta through the yummy goodness of [tag]Yoforia[/tag].  Made with only organic milk and organic yogurt, this stuff is blissful.  I don’t know if “active cultures” are a good thing, but they sure as heck taste good.

This frozen goodness comes in cool flavors – the most standard is plain which is like vanilla but with a hint of lemon juice in it.  Other flavors include blueberry, green tea, and pomegranate.  You can get 3 toppings for one price (but you don’t necessarily have to get 3- you are just paying for up to 3)  and the toppings are magnificent…from fresh berries, to chocolate, to cereal!   And you get tons…

Ashley and I split a small size which quite frankly is plenty for us, but we have heard stories of small people gobbling up a large  – which is huge! Anyway, go get some Yoforia.  It is worth waiting outside (like we did) one Sunday morning until it opens!

VOTE EARLY AND OFTEN!

stupid-voter.bmp

Okay, so you can’t vote often, but you can certainly vote early.  I just heard a rumor that GA projects up to 90% of registered voters to vote.  Holy Crap!  You are going to be in line a long time.  I suggest that if there is any way possible, you vote early.

Here are links for [tag]Dekalb and Fulton County early voting locations.[/tag]   VOTE!

La Tavola Me Anytime…

antpasto-at-lt.JPG
The almost eaten antipasto platter at La Tavola.

Alison and I love good restaurants and we know there are quite a few in the city, but there are only a handful that truly impress me each and every time I go – and one of these is [tag]La Tavola Trattoria[/tag] in the Virgina Highlands.  Considered by me to be the [tag]Fifth Group’s best restaurant[/tag] in town, everything is impeccable – from the service, to the lighting to of course the food.  Now, before I go on, I will tell you that I can talk all day about how dinner was last night, but really, I am going to be discussing a certain person who works at La Tavola…

My mom and I went last night as she is in town and Alison is in Cajun country for her 15th year high school reunion.  No, I did not go to Gonzales LA for Alison’s 15th reunion (who has one of those anyway???) and know I am a bad partner.  Anyway, I digress.  I took mom to La Tavola last night – well, she took me there – and we sat at the bar because I have a good friend, Alli Soble, who bar-tends there(and I am convinced helps run the place.)  I was surprised to see the bar filled almost to capacity with people eating at 6:30pm last night – considering the rest of the place was still a bit slow.

Ah, but I soon learned that Alli has a following.  Oh does she.  Alli has a following of lovely ladies who come and spend time (with or without their partners) to eat at La Tavola and chat with Ms. Soble.  I think that while mom and I were there, at least 6 ladies walked up to sit at the bar. Two got turned away because there was no room at the bar (but plenty of room in the restaurant) but they left because they could not sit there!

While we were enjoying watching all of this take place around of, the food came and went.  We started with the antipasto plate which is large enough for 3 people.  Mom and I shared a caesar salad and got one of the amazing ravioli dishes.  (I’m not telling which one because it has beef and veal in it – which I have said I have stopped eating…)  We also got two desserts which were to die for – mine a chocolate creation and mom a lemon cake creation.

So, as the place filled up to capacity, Alli still had plenty of her followers lined up waiting to get the bar.  Now, all of course were not gay women, but alas, I think all of them wanted to be... So, in the end, if you sit at the bar or not, you will hopefully enjoy your experience here as much as we always do.

I Can’t Help Myself…

I mean, I think I will at some point do a [tag]“Cutest Dog In Atlanta” contest[/tag] with a good grand prize or something.  Of course, if I do that, I will not let my own dog in the game since it is quite obvious he is indeed the most handsome dog in Atlanta.  So, let me come up with some prizes and then we will do a contest.  In the meantime, here is Brutus chillin in our backyard.
