The Tornado Struck East Atlanta Village Too…

eastatlantatornado2.jpgThis home is in EAV, not Cabbagetown (photos taken by Dave Coustan, a resident.)

Why has the [tag]Atlanta media[/tag] completely ignored East Atlanta Village? I know the damage is not as extensive as it was in [tag]Cabbagetown[/tag], but indeed quite a few homes were hit by massive trees, debris flew around, and people were left homeless. I have a friend who had to move out of his home for a while because of the damage. Old trees came down across [tag]Glenwood Avenue[/tag] (certainly the media has heard of Glenwood Avenue) and power lines were thrown all across the Village itself.

Could it be that East Atlanta Village is ignored because it is on the other side of I-20? I certainly hope not. Regardless, the neighborhood needs help too – and lots of it. I do know Hands On Atlanta has moved in to help, and certainly our Atlanta Councilwoman, [tag]Natilyn Archibong,[/tag] has asked for assistance. But, the media has never truly gotten involved with this area, therefore, the majority of individuals in the greater Atlanta area have no idea how hard hit East Atlanta was. Sad, sad, sad.

Le Petit Marche’ (The Little Market) Rocks

brutusandlittlegirlatlepetit.jpg Brutus and Little Girl wish they could enjoy The Little Market as much as I did…

I have always wanted to open a great market that serves sandwiches and snotty things like cheeses, olives, lotions, and fabulous honey, but alas, I have never done it. Well, thank goodness, Ms. Marchet Sparks has! Alas, [tag]Le Petit Marche[/tag]‘ is located on Hosea Williams Drive at the Kirkwood Station and I hopped in for lunch today.

The place is immaculate and I am guessing it will stay this way. You are surrounded by local teas (they have one each day you can taste), olives, cheeses, Oliviers & Co. balsamic vinegars, Italian pastas and sauces, biscuits, hand creams and lotions, fresh truffles in a small cooler! and the list goes on and on. Oh, and you can easily pick up fresh organic milk, soy milk, bacon, or hummus among other things in the fridge. I do wish she will have wine one day to compliment the great selection of cheeses, but she may opt out of dealing with getting that license from the City!

Anyway, you can sit at the cute Provincial French looking tables as you enjoy your sandwich, soup, or salad. The menu is not large, but right on. The soup today was a broccoli, cheese and potato soup with turkey sausage and I will say it was to die for. It possibly was the best creamy soup I have ever had. My half turkey sandwich was nice as well with thick slices of very good turkey, provolone cheese, and a nice mild mustard. I listened to the cool French Fusion music as I ate and enjoyed watching people walk in to peruse the store. Other sandwiches include a Cuban which I hear is great, a greek roast beef, and a tuna salad. (There are more, you just must go visit yourself.)

I am delighted to have this near my home and intend to walk there for a great lunch time and time again. Kirkwood and the surrounding neighborhoods should be so excited that this Little Market has come to town. Go visit and enjoy -and buy a lot! (Open Mon-Thurs. 11am-7pm / Fri., Sat. and Sun. 11am-8pm)

Loca Luna – Live From Miami…

I really have always loved Loca Luna. In fact, Alison and I had our Celebration (unlawful wedding) there when it was located on [tag]Juniper Street[/tag]. That [tag]Loca Luna[/tag] was great with dark colors – as in “starry night” colors. Paintings across the walls of the bar area depicted a moonlit evening over some Latin American country. There was a pond and beautiful fountain on the massive porch area and it all seemed to fit together perfectly.

Well, things have changed at the new Loca Luna. This Loca Luna represents Miami circa 1982. Located at [tag]Amsterdam Walk[/tag] where the Red Chair used to be, the space has undergone some serious changes. Gone are the dark colors. In are the pastel pinks, oranges, and yellows-as well as a baby blue ceiling. It is a really bright even with the lights dimmed low. And for some reason, they went crazy with the mirrors – mirrors on the walls, hanging circular mirrors over the bar, and – well, I could go on and on.

The food, of course, is just as good and it seems to always be packed with gorgeous people – especially single people gathered to drink a “Brasilian Pearl Necklace” or “Lane’s Penis” (yes, those are drink names.) I went with our friends, Alley, Kristen, and Michael, and we enjoyed the live Latin music and as for the food, I think the Golden Beet Lollipops, the Macaroni and Mahon, and the Beef Short Ribs with Balsamic reduction were the best. But, I don’t think I need to go often. I hate to say it, but it is just no longer (for me) the place I want to go to have a Mojito and some tapas. It is quite frankly, just too many things-in pastel colors.
