Now, Congratulations To Atlanta!

Ah, to live in the rudest city when it comes to making naughty gestures in traffic. That’s right, folks, we give more people the bird and cuss more at others when driving than any other city in the U.S. We also got the distinction from AutoVantage as the sixth least courteous city in terms of road rage. So, go drive your 2 hour commute to the burbs with your peaceful life with no trees, but be sure to cuss all the way home so when you get there you are a happy camper for your family.

So much love in this city – I feel it every day!

I Love These Emails

Have you really ever read a full one of these poorly written emails about someone dying in a plane crash and leaving the bank with 10 million dollars? They are interesting scams that started years ago and are still going on. I thought I would post one I got today. Read when bored or looking for a giggle.

With Due Respect,

I am the manager of bill and exchange at the foreign remittance department of african development bank (ADB). I crave your indulgence as i contact you in such a surprising manner. But I respectfully insist you read this letter carefully as I am optimistic it will open doors for unimaginable financial rewards for both of us.

In my department we discovered an abandoned sum of Ten Million,Five Hundred Thousand US dollars (US$10.5m) only , in an account that belongs to one of our foreign customer who died along with his entire family in a plan crash. Since we got information about his death, we have been expecting his next of kin to come over and claim his money because we cannot release it unless somebody applies for it as next of kin or relation to the deceased as indicated in our banking guidelines but unfortunately we learnt that all his supposed next of kin or relation died along with him at the plan crash leaving nobody behind to come for the claim.

It is therefore upon this discovery that I now decided to make this business proposal to you so that the money could be released to you as the next of kin for safety and subsequent disbursement since nobody is coming for it and i dont want this money to go into the bank treasury as unclaimed Bill.

The Banking law and guideline here stipulates that if such money remained unclaimed after five years, the money will be transferred into the Bank treasury as “unclaimed fund”. The request for a foreigner as next of kin in this business is occasioned by the fact that the customer was a foreigner and a Burkinabe cannot stand as next of kin to a foreigner. We agree that 30% of this money will be for you as a foreign partner, in respect to the provision of a foreign account , 10% will be set aside for expenses incurred during the business and 60% would be for me.

There after I will visit your country for disbursement according to the percentage indicated. Therefore to enable the immediate transfer of this fund to you as arranged, you must apply first to the bank as relation or next of kin of the deceased indicating your bank name, your bank account number, your private telephone and fax number for easy and effective communication and location wherein the money will be remitted. Upon receipt of your reply,I will send to you by fax or email the text of the application.I will not fail to bring to your notice that this transaction is hitch free and that you should not entertain any atom of fear as all required arrangements have been made for the transfer.

I need a capable and able person who will handle and manage this funds because it is not a small amount of project.

You should contact me immediately as soon as you receive this letter.

Trusting to hear from you immediately.

Yours faithfully,

Mr.Philip Themon,
Bill and exchange manager,
African Development bank ADB

Too Many Things…

I walked out of my house to take this picture. (We live close to a neighborhood church) and there was a massive funeral going on for someone. Anyway, I could not resist taking a picture. Please be sure to look at the picture carefully.

The Beamer Doctor

This Doctor knows how to attract patients. I just can’t help but think it is a guy… I am not sure of many women who would put “PooDoc” on their license plate. But maybe I do not know what I am talking about. Regardless, my friend Matt took this the other day. He did not get the Doctor’s card.

Luke, I Am Your Father…

I just can’t help but love this sign. I have found it all over Atlanta. Need DNA testing? Here is your number to call…

The Tornado Struck East Atlanta Village Too…

eastatlantatornado2.jpgThis home is in EAV, not Cabbagetown (photos taken by Dave Coustan, a resident.)

Why has the [tag]Atlanta media[/tag] completely ignored East Atlanta Village? I know the damage is not as extensive as it was in [tag]Cabbagetown[/tag], but indeed quite a few homes were hit by massive trees, debris flew around, and people were left homeless. I have a friend who had to move out of his home for a while because of the damage. Old trees came down across [tag]Glenwood Avenue[/tag] (certainly the media has heard of Glenwood Avenue) and power lines were thrown all across the Village itself.

Could it be that East Atlanta Village is ignored because it is on the other side of I-20? I certainly hope not. Regardless, the neighborhood needs help too – and lots of it. I do know Hands On Atlanta has moved in to help, and certainly our Atlanta Councilwoman, [tag]Natilyn Archibong,[/tag] has asked for assistance. But, the media has never truly gotten involved with this area, therefore, the majority of individuals in the greater Atlanta area have no idea how hard hit East Atlanta was. Sad, sad, sad.

Memorial Drive Signs and Such

bigboyonmem.jpgBrutus loves driving down [tag]Memorial Drive[/tag].

I love taking a drive down Memorial- not because it is a scenic street really, but because there are lots of fun signs to look at and comment on. Today, the pups and I hopped in the car to find some of these signs, and I am posting just a few from our adventure.

free-at-last.jpg I am not sure that Martin Luther King, Jr., when using these words in his famous Washington DC speech, meant for them to be used in the form of getting people out of jail. But, if you are indeed ever in jail, please give them a call.

wigs.jpg Wigs and beepers all in the same beauty supply store? How fantastic and convenient this is.

fish-and-chick.jpg I wonder if the little hanging thing in the middle is supposed to be the chicken. These fish hanging on the sign look miserable. I am sorry to say I was not able to enjoy the food as it had closed…

Paying Students to Learn In Georgia

I thought I had seen everything – but alas, I have not.  Now, [tag]Fulton County[/tag] officials have decided to pay a group of “pilot” kids in the 8th and 11th grades $8.00 an hour to learn.   And amazingly it is the “brain child” of [tag]Newt Gingrich[/tag].  The forty students chosen for the “Learn and Earn” program were picked by school staff, based on attendance, grades, test scores and free or reduced lunch status.  So, can kids who may skip school, are poor, and do badly on test grades get paid to learn in tutorial classes?   Would these kids show up for the classes without getting paid?

If children do not want to learn, care less about school, skip school, have parents who don’t care,  and don’t understand why school is so important in the first place, I can’t imagine that the kids won’t feel like they deserve money to learn forever. They may think they deserve it.  Will it be hand out that is expected?  I do not know the kids in the program personally nor do I really know their background, but I think we are getting into something that is extremely foolish.

Atlanta’s Number ONE!…

 gils-robbing.jpg

Atlanta has surpassed Los Angeles and Philadelphia to become – guess what?  The [tag]Bank Robbery Capitol of America[/tag]!  Whoopee!  I am so proud to live in a city with the most bank robberies.  It sets such a standard other cities strive for.  It seems to be quite easy to do.  A grandfather can do it, young dumb rich girls can do it, even people who aren’t wearing sun glasses can do it.  How exciting and how proud we should be!  Makes me vaclempt…

Poor Arthur Blank and His Falcons

petrino.jpg

After watching the Falcons play the Saints on Monday night, I figured [tag]Bobby Petrino[/tag] would be fired. But no, Bobby acted like Nick Saban before leaving LSU – he lied to Atlanta! He lied to his team – and most of all, he lied to [tag]Arthur Blank[/tag]. Who lies to Arthur Blank? The man said he would stick it out and that “all of us have to work together the rest of the season.” He told his own players he was staying, then hours later, he had signed a deal with Arkansas.

I hate lying. I think it sucks and I can’t stand these coaches who tell their own players that they are “with them,” and then leave them the next day. I know the Falcons have had a touch year and he lost his NFL star, Vick, to the dogs…but man, the rest of the players are trying! All I have to say is KARMA. Oh, and don’t mess with Blank.
