Walk/Run your Pup for The Bridge!

Have you ever heard of [tag]The Bridge[/tag]?   I have because I have a couple of good friends who work there!  And I think they do spectacular things for troubled youth across Metro-Atlanta. They have even been around since 1970.

Their fabulous mission is to improve the quality of life and social functioning of Georgia’s troubled and abused adolescents by providing innovative community based and family focused services, specialized education and residential care.

One of the coolest things they do is to bring wonderful doggies into their program and use the pups for therapy.  The “Animal Assisted Therapy Program” works to help youth who have been physically and sexually abused learn coping skills and find a sense of security and comfort with themselves and others.  This year, they are doing a First Annual Run Walk Bark 5k Race/1k Dog Walk/Fun & Games fundraiser on Sunday, June 28, 2009 at Brook Run Park in Dunwoody, from 7:30am to 12:00pm. [tag]Run Walk Bark[/tag] is a family focused and pet friendly event to benefit [tag]The Bridge’s Animal Assisted Therapy Program[/tag].  YEAH!

The 5K Run and 1K Dog Walk registration is $20 per runner/walker in advance or $25 after June 23. The 5k Run will begin at 7:30am. The 1k Dog Walk will begin at 8:30am and game stations will open at 8:00am.   You can form a team and raise even more money for The Bridge and the animals who help the kids so much!

They anticipate 500 participants in this first annual event to benefit The Bridge. Come and Run, Walk or Bark with them to help teenagers in Atlanta, or make a donation to The Bridge!  Brutus, Little Girl, Alison and I hope to be there!

Dining Out Wednesday Night, January 28th

Don’t forget to dine out at select restaurants on Wednesday night to help find the killer(s) of John Henderson, the beloved bartender from The Standard.  Restaurants are encouraged to give 20% of their profits that night to [tag]Crime Stoppers Atlanta[/tag] to increase the reward amount to find these assholes.

Please visit Atlantans Together Against Crime for a list of restaurants who are participating.  I am hopeful that more will sign up before Wednesday.

Cafe 458 Does Dinner Now!

I am not sure if you have ever been to [tag]Cafe 458[/tag] – an entity of [tag]The Samaritan House of Atlanta[/tag].  Cafe 458 by day is a wonderful place where the homeless can get a good hot meal “with reservations.”  The concept is excellent and the place does more than just feed people in need. (Read the link for good info on all this.)

Cafe 458 also does brunch (and NOW dinner!) for those of us who like to “give back.”   So, you can go get a great meal and all proceeds -including your hopefully big fat tip – go back to the real work Cafe 458 does!  I am excited about going to dinner (Thursday and Fridays from 5:30-8:30pm) because the menu looks delicious.  Alison and I have been to their brunch a few times and it is delicious with wonderful volunteers helping out each Sunday from 9am-2pm.

Located in the historic Martin Luther King area of Edgewood, you can’t go wrong with this meal.  You are doing a good deed and you are eating well while at it!
