Foxie Brown

What, you need a puppy?  By now, you have probably guessed I save a lot of animals in the City of Atlanta.  Here is the latest.  A 12 week old mixed mutt got dropped off in the hood and she needs a home.  She is healthy, has had her first shots,  is laid back, fabulous, and loving to all creatures.

I know you want her.  Email me!

Great Pups in Need of Home

I tend to find stray pups often and then go through the process of having to find them a home. The newest two I have found were wandering the streets together and had no tags, were timid, dirty, never seen the inside of a home, and looked like they needed help.

I have taken them to the vets, gotten all their shots and Draper (the boy) has been neutored. I can’t keep them, so if you happen to be reading this and need a pup, please email me and let me know. They are both loving, sweet as pie, great around other animals, wonderful around kids, a bit scared and a bit hungry, but on the way to being great dogs for someone.

They need a home where they can be inside and outside animals. They had never seen the inside of a home before they were rescued…

Village Vets of Decatur in a New Location

bldg-rendering.JPG

Brutus, Little Girl, Fred Cat and Bella Cat have spent almost as much time at [tag]The Village Vets[/tag] as they do at home. They seem to gravitate towards the vets to see [tag]Dr. Stacy or Dr. Villines[/tag] (the two we see most often) when they have stomach problems, gashes in their butts, or after they have eaten an entire bottle of Mylanta…I could go on and on. Anyway, we have always loved The Village Vets started by [tag]Dr. Will Draper[/tag] when he was much younger than he is today :) and now they have moved from their older Decatur location into a fabulous new building built especially for them across from Decatur High School on McDonough Street.

This new spot is a state of the art veterinarian center and it looks amazing. Built in a modern style, the building is stark and clean and the exam rooms are big and comfortable for both the human and animal. Of course all the familiar faces are there and everyone is always so happy to see- not me, but Brutus. I have only one complaint. There are fabulous portraits of “star” patients (cats and dogs of course) throughout the building and Brutus WAS NOT ASKED to be in one. Now, I know how much these people love Brutus and I intend to give Dr. Will a piece of my mind next time I see him. Brutus would look very good in a portrait on the wall of The Village Vets- possibly in the waiting room where others can coo and cah over him.

Enough sulking…Congrats to The Village Vets and their new wonderful building. If you have not found a vet in town, you must go see them! Tell them Brutus sent you.

I Ain’t Afraid of No Dog

Fred Cat, my fearless cat, is certainly the “Alpha Dog” of my house. I thought this picture was appropriate.

Recycling Dog Poop

I’m sitting here listening to NPR this morning in my pajamas.  There is a piece on recycling waste across the world and making bio-fuels.  I am wondering why we can’t recycle dog poop.  Does anyone know of a place who actually uses poop for anything?  It is a thought.  Maybe one day we could start cars with dog poop.  Dog poop is everywhere – there is a lot of it and hey, why not use it.

I will be honest and tell you that I pick up all the dog poop in the back yard from Brutus and Little Girl and place in a large bucket (way in the back) and then bury it so I don’t waste so many plastic bags.  On walks I use [tag]biodegradable doggy bags[/tag] from [tag]Planet Dog[/tag].  They are wonderful.

Anyway, enough of poop talk – but if you know of a place that uses dog pop, let me know.  Little Girl would be happy to hear about it.

Our Dogs

So, I can’t help myself.  I am going to post pictures of our animals (yes we got another pup.)   Not many dogs can compare to these two.  I don’t care what you say. Pictured below is Little Girl and Big Boy Brutus.

October Adopt-A-Dog Month

fred-and-big-boy.jpg My post…

Loads and loads of dogs every year face euthanization because humans like Ashley and Alison don’t adopt them.  That is why I wanted to write about October being the American Humane Association’s Adopt a Dog Month.  There are so many great shelters in Atlanta that are overflowing with pups in need – who may not be as cute as me - but who need a loving home.  There is a pup in our neighborhood, Buster, who needs adopting.  His picture is showcased below.  If you would like to help him, please contact his foster parent at aatosca@bellsouth.net

Other than that, please visit these great shelters for more information about adopting pups in Atlanta.  Atlanta Pet Rescue, Paws Atlanta, and Atlanta Humane Society.  There are many others, but these are the ones I chose to highlight.

I hope someone ends up taking Buster.  He is a good, sweet boy who likes kids, laps, and walking.

Local Pet Supply Store My Favorite

feed-and-seed1.jpg

I love the Kirkwood Feed and Seed located on Hosea Williams Drive in [tag]Kirkwood[/tag].  Joann, the owner, has opened her arms – and doors - to rescue groups, vaccination clinics, pet training events, and so much more.  She offers lots of great treats, toys, collars, and organic and healthy food for cats and dogs.  (Brutus loves the Chicken Soup for the Dog’s Soul selection of dry food.)   You can bathe your dogs in the “Doggy Swimmin’ Holes” or let one of her groomers do it for you.  Point being, it is a wonderful, local, friendly place to get all your pets’ needs.  It is a tad more pricey than a big box pet shop, but hey, supporting locally owned shops in your neighborhood(s) is what it is all about.  Go visit and enjoy running into one of the store’s resident cats, Fred and Ginger.  (Pictured below is sweet Ginger.)
