This Lack of Water Thing is Freaking Me Out

Lake Lanier….doesn’t this look so sad?
Is there anyone out there as worried about this water issue like me? I know I am a bit obsessive, but man, I am really obsessing about this. The fact that I can’t water my poor plants (forget my lawn) with the hose is saddening to me. I have bought buckets to fill up with bath water just to give my plants some help. If the City of Atlanta runs out of water, I say we stink - and we would be the first large American city to allow it to happen. If the state and city have not prepared for this in the least, we deserve better. Now, I am a huge Shirley Franklin fan, but she needs to pounce upon the Army Corps of Engineers and the Feds to make them stop draining Lake Lanier.
So, enough ranting. We are all on a level 4 drought statewide ban, and you can learn about it here. Of course, if you need to pressure wash your home commercially, by all means, go for it….that does not use much water at all. Seriously though, we all need to help out. Conserve Conserve Conserve!

You are not the only one freaked out. 3 months of water left in Lanier?? And the ACE is still draining it for some mussels in Fla?
I mean seriously. There may not be enough drinking water available to Atlantans in 3 months. That is extremely frightening.
I was wondering if any other big cities had ever had this problem. I mean, for Chicken sakes, Las Freakin’ Vegas is this huge city that has to have all its resources trucked in, and they aren’t running out of water.
Is it for real? I am now officially recycling graywater, showering less (much to the chagrin of my family), and doing unofficial rain dances in the backyard.
I’m scared.

To top it all off, I drink a gallon of water per day.
My throat is starting to tighten up just thinking about it. I can’t believe our elected officials have let things go this far.

I am extremely proud that my daughter is so conscious of the only earth we have. It takes passion, intensity, and awareness of the greater world to see beyond ourselves. Bravo! Ashley
