DRAGON-CON IS HERE!
August 26, 2008
People, if there is one parade you must attend unlike any other parade in the world (or at least Atlanta), it is the fabulous Dragon-Con parade this coming Saturday, August 30 at promptly 10am near Woodruff Park. I must admit that last year, Brutus and I went to our first Dragon-Con parade and both of us sat on the side walk with our mouths wide open looking at the amazing costumes. We even got up close and personal to the grand marshal of the parade last year - none other than Erik Estrada. Kids, that is right. The Chips star was there!
If you don’t know what I am talking about, Dragon-Con is the largest multi-media, popular culture convention focusing on science fiction and fantasy, gaming, comics, literature, art, music, and film in the US. WOW -all right here in Atlanta. I mean, seriously folks, this is not just fun and games, this is business and these people know what they are doing, enjoy every minute of it, and laugh at all of us who think they are “crazy.”
The festival of sorts lasts all weekend, so if you get a chance, head downtown, pop in at a big hotel with a drink, and watch Stormtroopers, Wizards, Harry Potters, and of course Dragons walk by-all shooting tequila.
Brutus at the parade last year gave it 4 big paws up.

Hey! Are you guys going this year?! (as in all three of you
Hmm, if we go I’ll be on the look out for the three of you (since I’m more likely to recognize you two with Brutus.)

I’ll be in Detroit, but even if I were here I don’t think you’d see me there. In addition to the fact that I don’t think I belong at Dragon-Con (well, I assume I don’t because I haven’t bothered to take time to figure out exactly what its purpose is), the Falcons are playing, Chick-fil-A is sponsoring an inaugural college football game, AND the Georgia DOT is proceeding with The Connector repaving project. Take MARTA or be prepared for hell on asphalt. Enjoy!
